Malaysia Student Survey Results

Here are some results gathered from a survey given to over 100 Malaysian students.

Which method do you think is overused in the classroom?
  1. Whiteboard, worksheets, essays and reports, reading out loud. (Linguistics)
  2. List and outlines, equations, learning textbook chapter by chapter. (Logical-Mathematical)

Which method of teaching would you like your teachers to use more often?
  1. Music, singing, song writing, rapping, poetry (Musical)
  2. Experiments, craft work, making and building things, plays and skits (Bodily-Kinesthetic)
  3. Lessons that are connected to nature, you take walks in the field, learn to preserve nature and the environment etc. (Naturalist)

Unsurprisingly, the methods of teaching students think are most overused in the classroom are methods that linguistic and logical-mathematical individuals would like, just as Howard Gardner has stated in his theory. Linguistic and logical-mathematical teaching is also used daily or on most days in all the school I have surveyed, as you can see here. A high number of students would like to have more classes that incorporates music, hands-on activities and activities related to nature, and these are scores that

I have initially expected International Schools to have more hands-on activities and incorporate more intelligences into their classrooms because International Schools gave off that vibe of openness and experimentation of different teaching/learning techniques, but it turns out to be quite the opposite. Schools like Mont Kiara International School, Fairview International School (CIE) and Fairview International School (IB) all seems have less classroom activities/lessons that uses Musical, Bodily-Kinesthetic and Nature intelligences. However, International schools seem to have more days where there are group projects. Students also use more charts, graphs, posters, sketches and drawings in class.
